Nostalgia project: the restoration of an old FT-277 (FT-101) which was given to me by my elmer in Ham Radio, Rino I5MMC (now S.K.) tnx!
The unit was very dirty inside and outside, out of order. With a patient work of cleaning and repairing this old chap came back to life. I made it repainted by an auto repair shop owned by a fellow ham radio who replicated the original Yaesu grey color. It surprised me for the good audio quality , more confortable than my FT-847 expecially on the 10-15 meters bands. As a plus it is equipped with the 500 Hz optional CW filter, anyway on the lower bands the receiver is quite useless, suffering from high intermodulation and spurs, later models had many receiver improvements. TX tubes are still running at 120W. |

This is the original FT-101 Mark 1 advertisement as published on the CQ Magazine , may 1972. Look at the people, I could have been the kid smiling on the right... Those years I was already dreaming about ham radio, and the '101 was the n.1 object of desire to me...yesss seventies nostalgia!
It was a 15Kg portable rig too ! |
